Who is a Podiatrist

A Podiatrist is a medical specialist who deals with foot and leg problems. Podiatrists treat and alleviate day-to-day ankle, leg structure and foot problems such as heel pain, athlete’s foot, ingrown toenails, corns and calluses, wounds, nail cosmetic, sweaty and smelly feet among others.

They also offer advice on how to care for your feet and what types of shoes you should wear!

Our Advanced Podiatrist, Sally Kariuki, DPM (Doctor of Podiatry Medicine) is trained in the UK, The University of Salford and based in Nairobi, Kenya.

The following are some of the services available;

Ingrown Toe Nails

Ingrown toe nails occur when the nail cuts into the side of the toe causing pain and sometimes pus. We offer a permanent solution known as partial avulsion.

Corns and Calluses

Corns and calluses are areas of hard skin that can grow anywhere on the foot and toes. Sometimes corns and calluses can be painful. The foot type and unsuitable foot wear are the most common contributing factors. We can alleviate the condition by doing a gait analysis as well as offer corrective orthotics, suitable foot wear and/or removal of the hard skin.

 Verrucaes/Warts

A Verrucaes/Wart is a condition brought on by a virus and can easily be confused for a corn. It can be very painful when it occurs on a weight bearing area of the foot. It is often seen in young people.

Heel and General Foot Pain

Heel pain is one of the most common foot problems that we see. It presents with pain around the heel when walking, pain first thing in the morning or pain after periods of sitting. It responds well to treatment if managed aggressively.

Knee and Ankle Joint Pain

Knee and ankle joint pain is often seen in people with arthritic conditions, runners, gym enthusiasts and overweight people. This pain can be debilitating. We have various treatment options for all these depending on the causative factor. Some of the solutions include biomechanics, footwear, exercise, NSAIDS, steroid injections, PRP injections and hyluronic acid injections.

Diabetic/ High Risk Foot Assessment

Diabetics or patients with other high risk conditions like rheumatic arthritis, systematic cupus and circulation problems are at risk of getting foot problems that can lead to amputations. We offer regular foot assessments to pick up potential problems early in order to avoid such complications.

Wound Care

High risk Patients with wounds may require advanced treatment to allow healing. We offer various modern treatment options leading to timely healing.

Injection Therapy

    • PRP

We offer Platelet-rich plasma injections to aid in healing of tendons, muscles and joints

    • Steroids

Steroids can be helpful in the quick resolution of painful joints and tendons

    • Botox

Botox is effective in the correction of early halvux valgus. Botox is also used to manage severe hyperhydrosis

Heel Cracks

A heel crack is a condition which is unsightly and can lead to painful open sores if left untreated. It is caused by skin dryness or underlying medical conditions. Whichever the cause, we have a solution for you.

Fungal Infections

A Fungal infection such as the Athlete’s foot can occur between the toes. It appears wet, white and may sometimes crack. It can also present as dry scaly skin on the bottom of the foot or as small itchy blisters. Contact us for a solution to this problem.

Biomechanics

We use Biomechanics to help patients walk better by assessing the structure, alignment and function of the foot and legs. This is an individualized assessment that helps us recommend the most effective treatment for your specific problem which could include Orthotics among other solutions.

Orthotics

Orthotics are artificial devices used to help people with walking deformities walk better. These are measured and fitted specifically for the deformity and therefore make the patient more comfortable.

 Wilde Pedique

Wilde Pedique is a cosmetic procedure on damaged nails. In case a nail is broken or missing, a new artificial nail is built and installed in a patient that blends perfectly with the rest of the nails.

Footwear Advice

A lot of foot pain is brought on by unsuitable footwear which includes shoes and socks. We can advise and provide you the appropriate footwear for your foot type.
